Although Hellhounds still wreak havoc, they do nothing in comparison to the great beast that is Cerberus. The Gamemakers though the Hellhounds were too common and needed to be vamped up. Thus the Cerberus was born. Twice the size of a normal Hellhound and with three vicious heads, this beast roams the land not looking for easy prey but large groups to tear apart. And with three heads, the dog can attack three times during the time it takes one Tribute to attack. Cerberus certainly is a force to be reckoned with.

The Capitol really outdid itself with this muttation. With the naked upper torso of a gorilla affixed to the legs and wings of a bird, this beast can be quite elegant. The Harpies were originally developed to be companions for older Capitol men. It took a few deaths before the muttation engineers realized that the Harpies were better off contained to an arena. There is a certain femininity to a Harpy’s movements, a sly batting of her eyelashes just before she attacks, a proud fluttering of her wings before she swoops in on her prey. But don't be fooled; this is one twitchy, screechy critter who loves to use her knife-like talons to scratch up her prey before she eats his innards.

Obviously people on the side of the Capitol would know the word to pass, whilst it would be more difficult for the enemy. The Owl of Athena is a bird that is twice the size of a usual owl and has talons that rival an eagle's. It is able to speak, or transmit words from a superior power. It appreciates the knowledge of Tributes, and lays down a series of questions or riddles to prove worth. If answered incorrectly, the Owl of Athena will frenzy, attacking anything near it.

This mutt is rather small, they hunt in packs of around two or three at a time, they prefer to live in open areas, where they can burrow under the ground. The perfect climate for them would be the Asphodel Meadows as well as the Lotus field. They are around the size of a young a mole, but from the size the comparison stops. They have scales like a serpent, and two short arms that jut out from their sides that help propel them forwards when they are digging and travelling on the land, they have no eyes and instead to large open nostrils on their forehead. They were created by the Capitolites at first to be sent beneath the district 11 crops. At first before the rebellion they were simply used to help the crops grow, removing unwanted pests from beneath the soil, and helping the crops flourish. Once the rebellion began they were transformed to destroy the crops and on occasions to even attack citizens. Becuase of their long sharp teeth and able bodies digging through the soil to find prey was simple for them, besides who would expect them to jump out and at you from right under your feet?

They're usually not that aggressive, but their hard skin is almost impenetrable and those claws can cause fatal lacerations. They have a main breeding ground in the statue garden in the Underworld, and if you venture too close, they become very territorial. Their main form of attack is swooping, which leaves it's victims with terrible head injuries.

A cross between and albatross, a porcupine, and an armadillo, this species of bird was something the people of the Capitol hoped would help them terrorize rebels quite easily. These large birds did not only eat all of the rebels' food supply, they also ate them alive and poisoned much of their fields with their toxic waste. This bird has highly armored skin (from the armadillo) and the ability to shoot sharp feathers (from the porcupine) and the regular flying capabilities of the albatross. This bird was completely killed off after the Dark Days, but the Capitol kept the DNA. Later, when ideas for the 62nd games were being tossed around, they decided to use the extinct species.
