Early Life
Haff was not an only child, he grew up in a house always filled with noise and laughter. Haff struggled to fit into a family such as his. Unable to properly understand anything that was going on around him and always, always left out he eventually took up the roll of cleaning and caring for the horses. Not once did Haff complain, he loved waking up in the morning before everyone in the house, feeling the morning due on his skin and always watching as the sun rose above the plains of his home. He would feed each and everyone of the horses, a boy known to be forgetful and often confused never once did he forget a horses name or which horse liked what food the most/ he prided himself on how well he could care for them. He never was given the opportunity to ride a horse and the whole idea of climbing on one of those massive, beautiful beasts back was a daunting one to him. Haff liked to believe that he knew the horses better then anyone else in his family and it is a belief that is greatly shared by his family. He rarely spent time with them ,preferring the solitude of being out doors where on one could tease him or pick on him for being slow or smelling bad.
When he was young he he meet the best horse of his life. A young foul, he named Anima was born. She was born in a bad state, too small and thin, too malnourished. Pregames
Haff did little to meet his alliance, nervous and unable to even communicate with a single person he spent his time in the training center wondering around aimlessly. Eventually Noreen Lyver the district ten tribute to sympathy on Haff and with the held of the district eight tribute Chloe Corby the three formed a rocky alliance. It was, unlike most, with Haff unable to do anything and Chloe and Noreen showing little liking to each other an alliance that they all knew would not last very long. But both felt a need to protect Haff and for that reason they stayed with him. The training Center provided Haff with many knew things, but again he showed little interest in looking at anything, instead preferring to stay at the knife station, picking at bits of wood with a small knife, carving small horses.
The second last night, before the games begun proved to be a night that Haff would never forget. After getting lost and unable to find his way back to his room he stumbled upon Lethe Turner. The district five victor had spoken to Haff's sister before leaving for the Capitol and immediately recognized the young boy. After gently coaxing the boy to follow her she took him behind a room and into the stables where they kept the horses for the parade. Haff was delighted to see them. Having grown up with horse all his life, both Lethe and him stood there, before walking over to them. Lethe smiled at Haff and he returned it and for the first time in his life he managed to form a simple word, "home". Lethe was stunned at first, but then smiled, before tugging Haff to get onto a horse. Haff having never ridden a horse before was shocked, but followed. He was instantly amazed at how easy it was. And for the first time in a long time Haff was happy as he followed Lethe on a horse, giving him a reason to fight for his life.
Bloodbath
The bloodbath was a nerve racking thing for Haff Ferde, the simpleton from district five found himself unable to sleep the night before, terrorized at the prospect of dying and dying slow and painful at that. As he rose into the arena all he could do was stare and look at he world around him. Within those sixty seconds all he could think of was Lethe and the horses and Amira, sweet little Amira. As the gong rang out he ran, he ran as fast as he could, because he knew what he was fighting for, he was fighting for his horses. The battle raged about him, confused att he sudden attacks on his alliance Haff attacked, unarmed, hitting Destiny Lenstil with his fist. His hands wrapped around the handle of a trident as he turned to face another opponent. After watching another round of attacks on his team mates and narrowly missing an attack himself he had enough time to whisper an apology to the girl he had struck, feeling guilty over hitting her, before turning and fleeing the chaos, chasing after Chloe to make sure she was okay.
Day One
The chaos did not end after the bloodbath. After running from the blood and gore of the bloodbath Haff catches up with his Ally Chloe. The girl has suffered extensive wounds and cuts and without thinking he treats her with the minimal skills he had learned during his training. The two of them stop, breathing hard, before filling up a water jug and drinking. The area around them seems silent, with no sound coming from anywhere. Haff is on the verge of a break down, unable to cope with the basic idea of even hurting another person, but he pushes throw it knowing that the girl in front of him really needed his help. He had no clue where Noreen was, but for the moment he did not care, because suddenly three people jump out at them all of them - Stark Harper, Jae Moreno and Mahlah Shea - lunge at Chloe, two of them miss and to Haff's astonishment she survives the first round of attacks. Instead of fleeing Chloe desperately stands her ground, her with her harpoon lunges at Stark. The attack does little and Stark retaliates by killing Chloe. Haff shocked can do nothing, but watch and his thrust back into reality as Jae turns on him, throwing an anchor at him. The pain makes Haff stumble, and he is attacked twice more before he can gather his feet underneath him and run.
Day Two
Day two was a torment for Haff. After surviving the fight he was left alone. Noreen had ditched him to run off with another alliance and the autstic boy had no one, but himself. Unable to fully understand what was happening to him Haff began to cry. He could not cope with the idea of having no one. He fell to the floor, hands scrabbling over the trident. He was all alone. Chloe was dead and Noreen had just left him to die, she had just left him after fighting with him in the Bloodbath. All alone and confused and not knowing what to do, Haff worriedly lashes out at a noise, his trident hits a creature as it scuttles towards him. Fearful and shocked at its surprised appearance he stumbled backwards. The creature, Pyrate, aggravated by his attack jumped at him. Startled he could do nothing as it shoved its sharp claws into his body, right on his face. It hurt, it hurt him so much and without thinking he ran from the beasts, the pain in his head raging on. He stumbled and fell unable to keep going as warm sticky blood raced down the side of his head and spilled onto the sand. Struggling to so anything he sunk into the sand, letting it wrap around him and hold him down. He tried to speak and eventually managed to say few words, wanting the world to know how he had suffered, but know how he did not care and that as long as he had his horses with him it would all be alright. He dies clinging to Anima and saying, “Home is the place where you are most happiest.” Because being with Anima was where he was the happiest.
