Early Life
Seventeen years prior to his reaping, Cole is born to District Eleven citizens Jack and Ria Haister. At the age of three, his younger sister was born. He has a very traumatic childhood - at of seven he was involved in a missile attack, followed by witnessing his father being shot by Peacekeepers. The reason for his father's assassination is unknown. Before his fifteenth birthday, the boy has also witnessed his sister being randomly attacked by two men. This unfortunate string of events leads to his depression. He is hardworking and has a high heat tolerance, which aids him when he spends time in the mines.
Reaping
On the morning of the reaping, Cole thinks about how much he dislikes the Games. He dresses in a shirt and trousers, before eating his breakfast despite not feeling hungry. He leaves his house alone, intending to use the solidarity to ponder his sadness. He does not understand the point of the Games. Once he has reached the square, the boy looks around at familiar and unfamiliar faces, knowing that one or more of the children will die.
His name is called, and despite the cheering and encouragement from his friends he barely reacts. His notable thought is 'damn it' before he walks up to the stage.
Interview
Dressed in a tuxedo, Cole meets Caesar Flickerman on stage for his tribute interview. When asked about his training score of one, Cole says he doesn't feel too confident, but that you 'never know'. Bluntly, he tells the watching crowd that the most impressive thing about his new surroundings is the food. When asked if he has anybody special back home, Cole speaks of a girl named Sapphire who shot him in the woods with a bow and arrow. Quietly, he says he misses her. Queried on what he enjoys in his spare time, Cole does not answer.
Mr. Flickerman asks him about his family, and despite describing them in his mind as dead, he says they are fine.
"I really just miss not having any one to trust here. Back home I had tons of people watching my back." - Cole
At the end of the interview, Cole thanks his family and friends and wishes that the odds be in his fellow tribute's favour.
The 56th Hunger Games
Day One
Cole enters the Bloodbath around the middle, springing from his plate as quickly as possible the moment the gong sounds. He sizes up his fellow tributes during the countdown, trying to show his allies that he was loyal. He is attacked once before he attacks Gerrard Menderson and bruising his collarbone. He collects a switchblade as his weapon. A fellow male tribute, as well as the ally of his District partner attack him, causing reasonable damage. Despite being attacked, Cole decides to continue fighting and collects a satchel as he attacks Johnathan. He misses, despite having used his switchblade.
At this point, Cole decides that he needs to find his alliance and leaves the Bloodbath.
Cole run as fast as he can to the Grain Field, where he meets his alliance, filled with relief. Upon discovering that Alkin is dead, he consoles Theodore and is annoyed by Estelle. He then attempts to organise his friends and stockpile what they salvaged from the Cornicopia. He discovers both of his allies did better than himself. He takes a water jug from Estelle and proposes that they rest that night and hunt down Will, the killer of their fourth ally, the following day.
Day Two
They remained in the Grain Field for Day Two. When Cole awakens, he is pleased to find his alliance in tact. They are faced with two Ouroboroses. The first attacks Estelle. Cole is distraught, begging her to stay with him, however she dies. He then turns on the creatures and attacks them. Ramses and Ahmose, the Ouroboroses, then turn on Cole, the first severing his right ear and the second managing a shallow cut on his calf. Cole fights back, managing a shallow cut on the muttation's neck. Ramses dies, and the remaining animal attacks Theorore, injuring him.
They continue to fight, however it lands a final blow on Cole. He shouts, unable to comprehend what his ally is saying to him, and finally decides that he cares before sinking away into death.
