Early Life
Olivia is born a small, frail baby into a family hoping for a boy. She was born prematurely and a great disappointment. The next year, her younger brother is born and her family begin to treat her as though she does not exist. In the next few years, the farming family has another six children. Her two younger sister receive her old clothes as the family struggles with the expenses of bringing up such a large family. At the age of ten, she decides to spent money on an instrument rather than food, which begins her love for music and earns her the disapproval of her tired parents.
Against her parents wishes, Olivia buys tessera to provide food for her family, feeling guilty for her betrayal. When she is reaped, the family is not particularly upset and celebrates with the food she bought in return for her name being put into the reaping an extra time. She worries for her siblings, hoping that they are never reaped.
Reaping
On the morning of the reaping, Olivia notices that her dress had grown too small for her. She tugs at the hem of her dress in an attempt to draw it lower down over her body, subconscious and embarrassed. She worries for her own safety, as well as for her brother and sister, who each have their name in the reaping. She held her sister's hand as they waited. Upon noticing the small stature of the girl who had been chosen, Olivia decided to give her own life in the stranger's place.
Interview
At the beginning of her tribute interview, Olivia tells Caesar Flickerman that her training score of seven has improved her confidence, before uncertainly questioning it's decency. She speaks of her love for the food, people and fashions of the Capitol. She apparently does not understand Mr. Flickerman's question when he asks if she has a special somebody back home, but after forcing him to simplify his question simply states that she does. She speaks of her daily routines while apparently trying to sound intelligent - she uses large words with awkward grammar, often adding in unnecessary words or muddling their order. She describes her family as large, and states that she loves them.
She told the audience that she missed her family, and that she is desperate to return home so as to provide income for their food and clothing. This causes the crowd to feel sympathetic toward her, and she fights back tears before leaving the stage. She reminds her fellow tributes that if they kill her, her siblings will be watching.
The Fifth-Eighth Hunger Games
Day One
Awoken by a knocking at her door, Olivia gets ready for the Games, not wanting to enter the arena. She ran as soon as the countdown ended. At first, she was not attacked, managing to land a hit on Maia in order to prove that she isn't weak. She collects a machete. The girl attacks back, simply bruising her knee. This angers Olivia, who manages to deeply cut the other girl's leg. The two continue to attack each other, with Olivia landing multiple deep gashes on her victim. She does not seem to mind the violence or regret her cruelty. It is only when another tribute, Ana, stabs her in the chest that Olivia begins to gain damage. She flees immediately.
She travels by herself to the Rock Field, where she examines her surroundings and considers that she made the wrong decision. An explosion sounds from somewhere near the girl, setting her bag alight and destroying parts of her skin. With an injured hip, she rested a while, and then surveyed her surroundings for others.
Day Two
Olivia sleeps restlessly, awakening every hour to check for danger. In the morning, she discovers the Volcano. She came face to face with Karl and Zack, who were fighting, and joined in, attacking Karl. During the fight, the girl explores the meaning of a conscience. Feeling no remorse, she continues to attack Karl. She imagines her younger siblings cheering and playing out the fight back home, using their hands instead of the sharp weapons she holds. Karl Miller attempts to explain to Olivia that the Capitol is the demon, rather than him, on his death bed. She cries, while looking forward to her next battle. She rearranges Karl's body before leaving.
Day Three
Olivia remains at the Volcano for her third day in the Games. She meets again with Zack, who shouts at her, believing that she killed Enigma Lane. Once she tells him he didn't, he continues to attack her. Before she dies, he asks her name, and she replies by telling him about her family.
"I’m Olivia Bell. I‘m the fifteen year old tribute from District 10. I‘m the oldest sibling of eight in my family. The youngest is seven. So, you better hope you don‘t win the Hunger Games ‘cause if you do, I guarantee you will have 9 people waiting for you in District 10. If you don‘t, well, I guarantee they will be cheering when your final blow comes." -Olivia Bell, District 10
In the moments before her death, she contemplates the end and thinks of her family back at home.
