Early Life
Destiny's mother and father never married. When her father found our that her mother was pregnant, he abandoned her to raise little Destiny on her own. Destiny's mother had an unknown job but was assumed to have made a decent amount of money, as she was able to afford a small, secluded house up on a wooded hill near the edge of district.
Just as Destiny was entering her teenage years, her mother fell gravely ill. It is unknown what the cause of this illness was, but in Destiny's later posts it is implied that it was her fault, or at least she believes it was. Destiny's mother died despite the medical attention given to her. Destiny, distraught, ran away from home for several days before pulling herself together and returning to try and carve out a new life for herself.
As Destiny grew, she began to leave the district in order to illegally trade the plants and animals she found there as well as items from District Two that were hard to come by in other districts. In order to avoid being missed, she returned to District Two regularly for public events such as Reapings, Victory Tours, and viewing of the Hunger Games, though she dropped out of school. Later in life Destiny began to feel that her life in District Two had little purpose anymore, and found herself considering leaving the district permanently. These plans were ended abruptly, however, when she volunteered for Felicia Vaine in the 61st Hunger Games.

Training Center
In the Training Center, Destiny first meets Pandora Woodards, the male tribute from District Eight. After talking about training and joking around a bit, they form a quick friendship, though they do not form an alliance with each other. Later Destiny meets up with her future alliance, the Countdown Kids, but does not reveal to them the fact that she isn't a Career. On the night before the Bloodbath Destiny attends Elon's party, during which she drinks for the first time and dances with Pandora. Later, during the Games, Destiny remarks that this was the last time she ever felt safe.
