Benat Izar

Benat Izar was a tribute in the 63rd Hunger Games. He is notable for having diarrhea in the bloodbath. He is also the second highest placing male tribute from District 11 (the first being Denver Samuels) as of the 63rd.

Early Life

Benat is the first son of Ara and Bakar Izar. The Izars are known throughout District 11 as one of the "big" families. Benat often remarked that if you pricked someone's finger, they probably had a bit of Izar blood running through them. He grew up on a small plot of land that his family share cropped. They worked together with the other Izars and various relatives to yield different types of corn for the capitol and surrounding districts. His father was particularly hard on Benat, as he was the first child. To mask this and the general malaise of the district, Benat took to playing pranks and joking.

Growing up, he was known by family and friends for being less serious than he should have been. Several times in his youth he was punished for his pranks, but nothing seemed to break Benat's live and let live attitude. He was very close with his youngest brother Sampson, and played a large role as the boy's role model. He was often at odds with his other brother, Deval, and competed frequently with him. Generally Benat was seen as lighthearted, and capable of making most of the district laugh.

Reaping

The 63rd Hunger Games reaping was Benat's final year. Having turned 18 not long ago, he was prepared to move on from his reaping and get his small plot of land granted to all Izars when they came of age. The morning of the event, he was in a jovial mood, and held his brother Sampson's hand as they walked along so that he wouldn't be afraid. The moment that his name was called, rather than letting fear set in, he treated the announcement like a joke. He remarked to the other boys in his district that he was off to the capitol to party, to drink, and to have fun.

He met his fellow District partner, Belle Calloway onboard the train to the capitol. He gave her the nickname "whacko" because of her hot and cold demeanor. She called him a "pig" before kissing him and inviting to cuddle with her until she fell asleep. Though they were not romantically involved, Benat did feel slightly attached to his district partner. He also believed she would make it further in the games than he did, as she seemed less fazed with the prospect of death.

63rd Hunger Games

Training Center

Benat arrived in the training center and set out to immediately establish himself as the clown. He goofed off during practice sessions, stayed up late drinking with fellow tributes, and ate half of his weight in capitol food. During his interview he remarked mostly about the accommodations of the capitol and how much he was going to enjoy them, should he have won the games. He is noted to have completely hidden his fear by pretending to goof off - not wanting to show weakness in front of the other tributes. His biggest fear was indeed dying early like most of the District 11 males that had come before him. He received a training score of 2 for reading a poem and mooning the Game Makers.

While in the training center, Benat was no stranger to hanging out with other tributes. He spent time with Ezra Argrow, Essence Nemad, Asunder Hayes, Axel Van de Grif, Cassius Birch, Elodie Magpie and Cricket Antoinette. He gave everyone he met in the training center a nickname so that he did not have to call them by their real names. His time with Essence Nemad helped to establish the idea that he should become part of an alliance.

The Bloodbath

Benat was one of the first tributes to enter the bloodbath, along with the rest of his alliance. His introductory post remarks that because of his intense fear (he cries out as he is lifted up in his tube) and stomach problems, he has diarrhea that floods his shorts. Despite this, he overcame his fear to crawl through the cornucopia, in hope to stay out of sight. He attacked Ashby Twillkenn and continued to do so. He then switched to Kolo Osei. After this, he finished by attacking Cassius Birch. It should be noted that all three tributes that Benat targeted died, but not by his hand. After collecting all of his items, Benat then fled the bloodbath with minimal damage.

Post Bloodbath

Benat fled into the pit of snakes. Here he came face to face with Faye Sinclair, Elodie Magpie, Essence Nemad, and Belle Calloway. He attempted to diffuse the situation by offering his non-alliance mates the opportunity to go the opposite direction they were heading. Before the girls could get the chance, all hell broke loose, and Faye Sinclair was soon dead. Benat did not do anything during the ensuing battle with the tributes that attacked, but rather stood still and assessed the situation. He ran off instead of attacking, having not been targeted himself. He was deeply unsettled by the death of his district partner, as it meant he was the last remaining District 11 on Day 1.

Early Games

Benat and his allies traveled to the Tomb for the second day. He had terrible dreams of death, thinking once again about how trapped he felt by being in the games. Montezuma's revenge faced two pitfall lizards in their fight. While all three of his allies were poisoned, Benat was the lone tribute not to take damage. He slayed one of the two pitfall lizards, allowing he and his allies to escape. Because of this, he was able to then use his antidote on Essence Nemad and save her from needing to be sponsored. He then spent time getting to know the her better. They spoke of their home districts, and he spent the evening making sure that she did not feel any further discomfort. On the second day, Benat also slayed a snapping deer, collecting deer meat doing so.

On the third day, Benat and his allies faced The Conquistadors at the lake. Benat fought naked, having wanted to swim in the lake in the warm sun. Again, he was not targeted, but his allies William Woodham and Essence Nemad were. He attempted to defend Essence by targeting Pyrian Keeni, but his blow darts either missed or proved minimally effective. Both Essence and William perished, leaving Elodie and Benat to flee. At this point Benat began to realize that he couldn't treat the games as nonsensically as he did. He valued life a lot more than he let on, and intended to show that for the rest of the games. He no longer called anyone by his created nicknames. After this fight, he received sponsorship money, allowing him to purchase a jar of tar.

Late Games

At the end of Day 3, Benat and Elodie ran into Ivy Soren and decided to ally with her. They then traveled to the Golden Pyramid for Day 4. Here they did battle with The Chupacabra. Though Benat initially was attacked by leeches, he also tripped down the stairs of the pyramid, taking the first amount of damage he had since the bloodbath. He managed to finish off the Chupcabra, killing his third mutt of the games. He also participated in the raid of Crickett Antoinette, wherein he stole her bow & arrows successfully.

Death

Day 5, Benat no longer wished to be a part of his alliance. He separated from them in the middle of the night, and made his way back to the shore of the lake. He did not trust Ivy, and he believed Elodie would do well enough on her own during the games. When he saw them approach, he knew that they were not coming to rejoin him. He targeted Elodie, and attempted to kill her. The two girls successfully overpowered Benat, and left him for dead.

His death took place in the evening, underneath the stars of the arena. They are of particular significance to him, as he speaks of how vast the universe is and how small everyone seemed. He recognizes that everyone had a story, and his has been told. He speaks to each member of him family, telling them how much they are loved. His mother, father, Deval, and Sampson are all mentioned. His parting words are that they "be good to one another."

Benat had a nickname for every tribute of the games, except for Meela Birdbrook, Ashby Twillkenn, Kolo Osei, Sampson Farron, and Roger Nelson.

Benat broke 6 out of the 10 blow darts he received throughout the course of the games.

Benat was a CBD character.

The word "Izar" is a basque word for "star."
