Early Life
Emma was born in District Ten, the child of a well-known diplomat and a mathematician. Her father was not around much as she grew up - and he was strict and stern when he was around. Her mother always put the needs of her children before herself. Her older brother was a rebel who was Captured by the Capitol and Avoxed when Emma was five. She believed it was his fault and that he deserved the punishment for conspiring against the Capitol. Her agreement with the Capitol extended to believing that the games was fair and a reasoable price to pay.
Reaping
On the morning of the reaping, Emma's parents force her to wear a dress - a choice she doesn't agree with. She also disapproves with the Mayor's fake smile, almost gagging as he speaks. Thinking that the term 'ladies first' is cheesy, she listens as her name is called. She steps up and shakes the Mayors hand, desperate to prove that her District has what it takes and avoid embarrassing them. She watches her parents reaction, thinking it ironic that two of their children had been taken by the Capitol for different reasons. Her friend, Anthony Peterson is also reaped.
"I am deeply honored to be able to be in the Hunger Games. I thank the Capitol for this opportunity."
Interview
Emma speaks with Caesar Flickerman prior to the Games in her tribute interview. She says she feels pretty confident with her training score of eight, and that she is impressed by everything in the Capitol. The people and wealth particularly please her. When Emma tells him that she spends her free time with her two friends, she does not mention that the time is spent illegally in the woods. On her family, the girl speaks of her parents professions, and then says she didn't get to see either parent much as a small child. A tear falls. Describing what she missed from home, she chooses school, and in particular boring classes. No sarcasm is displayed.
Finally, she sends her family the message that she wished she had known them and lets her fellow tributes know she wishes to get to know them.
The Sixty-sixth Hunger Games
Day One
Before the Bloodbath starts, Emma searches for her ally. She finds him, and then feels great sadness. In order to calm herself, the girl kneels down and presses her face into the floor. Suddenly, she remembers the mines beneath her feet and stands up, considering stepping off and ending her suffering. The gong sounds and she runs forward.
Emma watches as her ally is attacked over and over by other tributes. She kicks at Ocean, one of his attackers. Ocean Jones lunged back at her fiercely, deeply wounding Emma's stomach. Having collected a Bow and Arrows, Emma begins to fight with Trace Rowgan, while Ocean continues to inflict as much damage as possible. Hermione joins in the following battle. It lasts until both Ocean and Trace flee, having collected the items they need. Hermione manages one more blow before Emma flees.
She heads to the Creek, where she last saw her ally. She spots Ocean and picks another fight.
"You're so dead." - Emma to Ocean
The two girls fight briefly, with Emma missing over and over before fleeing.
Later, Emma enters yet another fight, which includes Ember, Mercury, Ocean and Luyu. Emma jumps in right away, swinging at Luyu and missing yet again. Luyu lands a deep gash in her right bicep, rendering Emma dead.
In the moments leading up to her demise, Emma feels calm, her wounds numb. Suddenly she feels a hatred for her father, apparently unable to forgive him for unspecified wrongdoings.
