Early Life

Abri's mother was a reasonably rich resident of District Twelve who fell pregnant at a party while still living with her parents. Her parents told her she was no longer welcome in their home. The young girl turned to her unborn babies father, who rejected her in turn. Alone and on her own, she drank all through the pregnancy. Surprisingly, the baby was born seemingly perfect. Until the age of six, Abri seemed normal to those around her. From then, however, her OCD began to emerge, and she would preform compulsive routines.

At the age of fourteen, she suffered a breakdown in relation to the disorder. She grew violent and self-destructive, and her terrified young mother locked her in a closet to contain her and limit the damage she could to to herself and those around her. Not appreciating this, Abri clawed at the door until her fingers bled. Her mother did not release her for three long days, and when she did a Doctor was at her side to assess her and take her away to live as an orphan.

She lived in the orphanage for a year before she was deemed safe to return home. Her existence at home the second time was mostly happy, as her mother chose to remain reasonably sober. Her grandmother, the woman who turned away her pregnant daughter years before, also decided that she wished to form a relationship with her growing granddaughter. This added to Abri's support structure and helped her to develop. She enjoyed playing music before being reaped.

Reaping

On the morning of the reaping, Abri enjoyed the cool breeze, scattered clouds and singing birds who perched outside her window. Her mother and grandmother still sleeping, she examined her reflection. She whispered that it was simply another normal day, before arguing with her mother over what she will wear. Her mother wishes for her to put on a pink dress, but she screams, insisting that she doesn't wear dresses. She wins the fight and is allowed to wear trousers and a sweater, although her grandmother warns her not to play with the long, green sleeves.

Standing in line for the reaping, one of Abri's ticks became more prominent. She nodded without being able to control her head, and struggled to breathe. When one girl rested her hand on her arm in comfort, Abri struggled to deal with someone touching her. As the Mayor arrives, Abri feelt numb and uncaring. When he called her name a couple of minutes later, she screamed 'No' many times over, her knees giving out and her hands over her ears. Wildly, she continued to scream as those around her moved away.

Peacekeepers rushed forward and draged her to the stage, and the Mayor asked her if she's Abri Ballo before shaking her hand and proceeding. She looked for her family in the crowd, and then did her best not to move her mouth, as when she did she ended up drooling down herself. She wondered about her immunity to morphling, stating that her legs weren't responding to her brain's sharp signals to run from the stage. The Peacekeepers were then needed to move Abri to the train.

Interview

Abri met Caesar Flickerman on stage at her tribute interview in the Capitol. She felt that the seat was uncomfortable, and made an unpleasant noise when she sat herself down in it. Attempting to play the stance of 'sweet', with short answers, Abri answered questions pleasantly. She didn't elaborate on why her training score of five made her feel not so confident, and he moved on. When asked what she liked about the Capitiol, Abri thought about a handsome avox boy she had met. She answered the question by complimenting the beauty of the people.

"I'm very good at the piano. I can listen to any song and play it automatically. I am also very good at singing. Sometimes my grandmother, takes me to the orphanage in Twelve and I sing and play for all of the girls and boys. I think it always makes their day." - Abri, on her talents.

She later described her family as 'nice' and said that she most missed the darkness at home. Lastly, the girl apologised to those back home in her final chance to communicate, and left the stage.

Bloodbath

Unfortunately for her, Abri entered the Bloodbath late, when the only others fighting were the incredibly strong Countdown Kids. She was pleased to see the ocean, wishing to step in it, 'just once'. She felt uneasy when looking at the other tributes as the countdown lowered, feeling that they were bigger than they had seemed before. She felt paranoia that she would be the first target before the gong sounded.

Klaus Goravich attacked her, but she blocked him. This was followed by a shallow cut from Penelope Libertine's harpoon, a stab wound from Fitz Ripley, and a severed arm from Destiny Lenstil. She screamed obscenities before begging for her life. Attempting to think about what her mentor had told her, Abri decided to flee from the Bloodbath. She vomits, using first aid on herself and leaves. In her absence, Countdown Kids acquired the wealth.

Day One

Directly after the Bloobath, Abri stumbled to the Beach. She headed right into the water without hesitation, enjoying it's cool tingle and sharp pain. She washed her hair and studied her stump, noting the amount of blood she was losing through it. She dreamed in her sleep and then lay on the sand, before Countdown Kids arrived to hunt her down. Again, Klaus was the first to attack. He landed a shallow cut on her neck, while Destiny and Fitz both caused damage. Penelope missed, however Abri was already too far gone. In the moments before her death, Abri thought of her family. Deciding that she was a mermaid, she begged Fitz to speak with her Grandmother if he won. Lastly, she asked him to 'make it count'.
