History
Rowan was born in the year of the 53rd Games. Her mother died a few weeks after she was born, and her father was an unknown stranger (rumoured to be a Wanderer) whom she never met. Raised by her Grandmother in a cottage nestled in the woods of District Seven, Rowan grew up an only child who spent her days in the outdoors. Often seen walking around the district bare-footed in the mornings, she kept to herself for most of her life and developed a dominant traits of compassion and curiosity whilst respecting her grandmother's old-fashioned traditions (wearing red for superstition), inherting her motherly (and often sharp) ways. In her teenage years Rowan began to suffer from night terrors and insomnia, terrified of the night and falling asleep. She began to develop a friendship with Gavin Barker after she accidentally mistook him for a werewolf and knocked him unconscious with a frying pan, which then developed into something more shortly before the reaping of the 67th Games in which Gavin volunteered. When confronting him in the Justice Building, Gavin confessed he felt like he didn't have a family in District 7 - and Rowan insisted that he had one compromised of the two of them. After Gavin's death, Rowan and his sister Raven Barker grew close in their mourning.
70th Hunger Games
Pre-Games
Due to the nature of the 70th Quell Twist, Rowan was one of 4 tributes reaped from District Seven. The tributes were compromised of two girls and two boys: Sue Tate, Stella Summit, Asher Rainer and herself. On the train to the Capitol Rowan's motherly tendencies shone through, becoming very protective of Stella when Sue questioned her about her prosthetic arm. Out of character, she gained the nickname 'Momma Rowan' on the site.
The Bloodbath
As the beginning of the 70th Hunger Games commenced Rowan was turned on almost immediately. She fought her way through the Bloodbath before she was mauled down and her killing blow was dealt by Kirito Miristioma. Crying out for help, ally Kiena Ward dragged a dying Rowan out of the commotion in an attempt to save her, but too much damage had been done and Rowan began to die.
Death
Surrounded by the Leviathans and Doctrines alliances at the conclusion of the Bloodbath, finally able to fall into a peaceful sleep with no fear of nightmares or terrors plaguing her dreams, Rowan died in the arms of Kiena surrounded by her friends and comrades, thanking them for trying to save her life.
Doppelganger Muttation
Rowan had a Doppelganger Muttation in the 70th Hunger Games. It visited Kirito, Sue and Kiena on the nth night of the games. Her doppelganger had a technical fault that caused it's dialogue to repeat itself over and over again, before eventually breaking down and collapsing in the company of Kiena.
Trivia
- Rowan's name means 'red', which was coincidentally her favourite colour.
- Her character was heavily influenced by the fairy tale 'Little Red Riding Hood'.
- Rowan's father was in fact, true to whispers around District 7, a wanderer.
- Unbeknownst to Rowan, she has many half-siblings scattered around Panem due to her father's wanderer status.
- In the 'in-between', a fictional afterlife for Zoe's tributes, she brought the forest.
