Zynna Yondall was the sixteen year old female tribute of District Nine in the 59th Hunger Games. She placed nineteeth, dying in the Bloodbath on Day One at the hands of Mace Emberstatt.
Early Life
Zynna grew up in District Nine, the daughter of a a shopkeeper mother and an absent father. She spent many years hunting to gather skins for her mother to use in the tailor shop she owned, although it brought in little profit for the large family. She was the eldest of five, with a brother and three sisters, however the brother and elder of the sisters moved to District Four to live with their father.
Zynna gained a dark, jagged scar beneath her right eye in an attack that killed her youngest sister. After the death of Nin, who was seven at the time, Zynna's previously 'open and talkative' personality became more withdrawn. She focused her energies on hunting and looking after her family in the years that lead up to her reaping.
Pregames
On the morning of the 59th Reaping, Zynna struggled with the death of Nin. When her name was called, she did not react with shock or fear, simply nodding her acceptance and looking away.
After receiving a training score of five, she told Caesar Flickerman that her score wasn't 'so good', but that she didn't believe that ruled her out of the running for Victor. In her tribute interview, she also told Mr. Flickerman that she found the Capitol to be very exciting. She described it as 'busy'. When questioned on whether she had a someone special back home, she became upset, telling viewers forcefully that she did not. She also struggled when faced with questions concerning her family, saying she enjoyed spending time with her sister, and that she missed both young Fara and her mother greatly. Nearing the end of the interview, the distressed girl made an effort to move the conversational focus away from her life back home, specifically her family. Finally, Caesar Flickerman asked what she would like to say to those back home, and Zynna fled from the stage without giving an answer.
She did not mention a token that she intended to take into the arena at any point before the games, or in the following Bloodbath.
The Bloodbath
After entering the Bloodbath, Zynna fell to the floor but quickly picked herself up again. Unfortunately for her, she was attacked right away. Sawyer Monaghan was the first to attack her, bruising her left hand. This was followed by a thrown knife in her chest from Mace Emberstatt, two shallow cuts on her back delivered by Charas Harp and Denver Samuels. Alexander Hood proceeded to stab her foot before Sawyer swung at her again, missing his target.
Instead of fleeing, the outnumbered Zynna attacked Mace Emberstatt and picked up a flail.
Charas Harp managed to slice the girl's arm. Alexander Hood missed just as Nadia Garez bruised her hand, apologising as she did so. While trying to stem his own Bloodflow, the future Victor, Mace Emberstatt delivered the final blow. Zynna died - the sixth person to fall - from the puncture wound of a throwing knife. Her player did not post a death post.
